This project critically examines identity as an inherently political construct, reclaiming agency over perception and challenging imposed narratives. Centering on the artist’s intersectional identity as a Black, queer woman, the work is informed by Black feminist thought, intersectionality theory, and queer studies. Conceptually driven, it engages with craft and design-based mediums—historically dismissed as “women’s work”—to explore femininity and identity, reframing them as powerful artistic expressions. While rooted in self-exploration, the work extends to a broader discourse on identity as an intersectional experience. In an era of rising white supremacy and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, this practice fosters dialogue, challenges societal norms, and amplifies marginalized voices. Through resistance, reclamation, and empowerment, the work serves as both personal reflection and collective awareness.
